A Beginner's Guide to: Defendant (피고인)

Now that it's been a while since the Korean drama Defendant has finished airing, some may start to binge-watch it all at once. So here's my guide to the beginners who wants to watch the hottest drama on dramaland this month (excluding Strong Woman, Do Bong Soon everyone freaking out about). Leave it all to me, this is one of my favorite dramas so far!

*Might be some Spoilers ahead, so I don't recommend you to continue to read this unless you're currently watching it/know what's going to happen*

Defendant (피고인)

Let's begin and take a look at the characters.

Here I have made my very own brief summary of the characters (sorry if it looks crappy I did it at 3 am). Main characters: We have the drama's star, Park Jeong Woo. He's a passionate prosecutor and does everything for justice, until he meets this psycho Cha Min Ho that practically ruined his life. Cha Min Ho got a twin, Cha Seon Ho which is his older brother (hyung in their case). Cha Seon Ho works as the director of his father's company Chamyung Group, he's married to Na Yeon Hee which used to date Min Ho in their past days. *Spoiler ahead* eventually we see that Cha Min Ho took his older brother's life by accident, and started to live as his brother in order to survive, because it all started with Min Ho killing a woman, and Park Jeong Woo was the prosecutor in charge for this case. After living with his brother's identity, Park Jeong Woo is the only one that knows who he truly is, so Min Ho takes revenge just because Jeong Woo got involved, by ruining his life and family.

We have Park Jeong Woo's longtime friend, Kang Joon Hyuk, who's also a prosecutor. He is also friends with Park Jeong Woo's wife Yoon Ji Soo (probably still has a crush on her). He's a bit arrogant, and we see no help from him when Jeong Woo's in danger (literally, he's the definition of douche-bag)

Seo Eun Hye is an attorney, she used to get bashed at by Jeong Woo back in the days because she's an amateur lmao. Later on, she becomes his attorney (see how that ended up lol).

Here we have Park Jeong Woo's family. His brother in law, Yoon Tae Soo, works as a police officer in the prison (or more like a security guard). At first they're pretty head-to-head with each other, but then Tae Soo helped Jeong Woo out a lot.

Yoon Ji Soo is Park Jeong Woo's lovely wife, we don't get to see her much but we still got the impression that she was kind-hearted and nice. They got a super cute daughter, Ha Yeon, she's also the main star in this drama <3.

At last we have granny, which is Park Jeong Woo's mother in law, Ji Soo and Tae Soo's mother. She is also nice and had patience.

We have Park Jeong Woo's co-workers, they all (and a few more) worked in the same office room. Now I gotta say we didn't see very much of Yeo Min Kyung because eventually, this team split up. Ko Dong Yoon is an important character, he helped Jeong Woo out a lot, but he got hurt so we didn't see him much more until the last episodes. Choi Dae Hong on the other hand is Park Jeong Woo's boss. It's a given that he helped his fellow worker, he did everthing he could with the superiors to justify Park Jeong Woo.

Cha Young Woon, the old man, is the owner of Chamyung Group (I honestly don't know what the company work with??) and dad to Cha Min Ho and Cha Seon Ho, it's pretty clear that he favors Seon Ho more. Myung Geum Ja is the mother of the twins, it is shown in the drama that she probably is mentally sick (or physically, or both). To me she seemed more sane than anyone from that family.

Poor baby secretary doesn't have a name, but we see him briefly here and there since he's the secretary and the driver, but we do see him a few more times in the last episodes too.

The prison family: All of the ones on the left are cell mates. Lee Seong Gyu was very kind and caring to Park Jeong Woo when he first came into the cell/prison. His "crime" was a hit-and-run accident, he was on his way to the hospital because of his sister. They judged that he was guilty even if he apologized and talked tot he other party (clearly he was in a hurry that's why he got guilty). Park Jeong Woo helped him out on his retrial. Moongchi won the lottery on the same day he got arrested, his crime wasn't anything serious therefor he will only stay for 1 year in the prison. Shin Cheol Shik's boss was murdered and Park Jeong Woo was the prosecutor for his case, and arrested him instead of the one that really killed the boss (so these two have a special relationship later on in the prison). Cheol Shik becomes their cell mates later on in the drama. The rest are there either for life, or a long amount of time. The elder (Milyang) for example was a surgeon, who actually is innocent. Park Jeong Woo will later on help him clear his name. Then we have the head warden and his security chief that are particularly interested in Park Jeong Woo, a lot. He's the warden of the prison, but still does some dirty work for Cha Min Ho, who uses him as a weapon to reach out for Park Jeong Woo.

So these were the connections, relationships between the most important characters in this drama. I hope I made it clear for yall and happy watching! Do you have anything that is unclear and want me to explain a specific thing? Comment or send a message / Yume
